About Me
Jeffrey Paul Baumgartner
These days I am an author, keynote speaker and workshop facilitator specialising in creativity and innovation. I've spoken and led workshops for businesses, governments and non-profit organisations in North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East for organisations as diverse as a leading multinational biotech company to the Prime Minister's office in Dubai.
My background is eclectic and multinational, which has given me a unique perspective on life, business and culture. This has fuelled my own creative mind and enables me to share those perspectives with readers and my audience.
In no particular order, I...
-
Have a degree, in fine arts specialising in sculpture, from Richmond University in London
-
Have been certified to teach English as a foreign language, which I proceeded to do in Portugal, Germany, USA and Thailand.
-
Wrote three popular magazine columns in the 1990s for Nation Junior and Business Review, popular magazines in Southeast Asia. Well, I guess Business Review was not popular enough. It went under a few years ago.
-
Set up JPB Creative in Bangkok in the early 1990s; it was one of Thailand's first web and multimedia development companies. In 1997, we launched the country's first original, Thai language infotainment CD-ROMs.
-
Advised the European Commission on promoting E-Commerce to small and medium sized enterprises in the EU.
-
Launched Dr. Ecommerce, a web based information resource for companies doing on-line business across multiple EU countries.
-
Designed, developed and marketed Jenni, an early innovation process management software used by companies in Australia, Europe, the USA and Africa to capture, evaluate and implement ideas.
-
Have written three books: The Way of the Innovation Master (business innovation), The Insane Journey (science fiction-humour) and Anticonventional Thinking (creative thinking).
-
Have developed -- and continue to develop -- anticonventional thinking (ACT) and have taught it to businesses, government bodies and non-profits globally. ACT is an alternative to brainstorming that addresses the latter's weaknesses and, as a result, is far more effective that the latter. This action has also made me a lot of enemies among brainstorming facilitators!
-
Have written Report 103 since 2004, making it the longest running newsletter/blog on business innovation.
-
Have done lots of other things while living in the USA, the UK, Portugal, Germany, Thailand and Belgium.
Unlike many other creativity consultants, I have not got an MBA, have never been employed by a Fortune 500 company (though have had a number of them as clients) and do not get regular haircuts.
